Eye Doctor
Ophthalmologist, Docent, Jaakko Teikari (physician in charge of the mobile eye clinic) has graduated as a doctor in Helsinki, Finland in 1973. Since then, he has studied at the University of San Francisco (UCSF) and the University of Berkeley in the United States. He has worked as a researcher at the Academy of Finland, publishing articles mainly related to glaucoma, cataract and macular degeneration, but also other eye diseases in international publications. He has been invited as an expert to evaluate articles for the prestigious Lancet medical journal, among others, and as a speaker at numerous international congresses.
He examines and treats patients of all ages (including children) and all eye diseases. In his time, he has received numerous research grants for various large-scale international research projects in eye diseases. One of them led to a short period of study and research at the famous Harvard University. In addition to training as an ophthalmologist, he is also an Epidemiologist (Master of Public Health, UC Berkeley, USA), which is why he has been involved in the development of screening methods for the early detection of various vision-threatening diseases.
He has participated in charity trips to Africa and the Far East over the years, taking his epidemiologist expertise to areas where its operating models bring the greatest benefit to all of humanity.
Inspired by this, he has developed a mobile eye car that brings recent technology far away from the centres and enables those living there to receive a high-quality eye disease examination package. The car has a national licence granted by Valvira (O.I.D code 1.2.246.10.27030023.10.11.). The car brings central hospital-level expertise and complete examination
